Welsh Teenager Receives Prison Sentence for Justin Bieber Terror Plot

A 17-year-old boy who was “hours away from committing an atrocity” at a Justin Bieber concert in June 2017 has been sentenced to at least 11 years in custody after being convicted of plotting a terror attack at the Cardiff, Wales performance.

Lloyd Gunton of Llantrisant, Wales was found guilty in November of planning the attack, which came in the aftermath of the May 2017 terror attack outside an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester that killed 22 concertgoers.

According to the BBC, Gunton researched how to carry out an attack using a vehicle as well as the security arrangements at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, where Bieber had a concert scheduled on June 30th.

Gunton’s social media was also flooded with images touting his allegiance to the Islamic State and apparent threats aimed at the Cardiff venue, the Daily Mail reported. Gunton also used “truck attack” as his social media password.

When Gunton was apprehended at his home in June 2017, the teenager was in possession of a claw hammer, a gutting knife and a “martyrdom letter” where Gunton wrote that he was a “soldier of the Islamic state” and stated that “more attacks will follow.”

“It is not possible to estimate how many people would have been murdered or seriously injured by your actions as the attack was foiled before you could undertake it,” Judge Mark Wall told Gunton after handing down the sentence. “I am sure that you planned not just the killing of one person but rather mass murder.”

Wall did not allow Gunton’s autism diagnosis to be an excuse while sentencing the teen, noting that, “Yours is not a condition from which you will recover… It is important that, having been tempted to commit a serious offence such as this, you are under some form of supervision for the rest of your life.”

After sentencing, Gunton returned to the young offenders institution where he has been held since his arrest.

Watch Johnny Depp Perform With Stone Temple Pilots at Tour Opener

Stone Temple Pilots kicked off their first tour with new singer Jeff Gutt Friday night in Santa Clarita, California, where actor Johnny Depp joined the band onstage.

Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the Hollywood Vampires guitarist performed a pair of tracks during the encore with Stone Temple Pilots: Core‘s Sex Type Thing and the band’s cover of MC5’s “Kick Out the Jams,” which also featured that proto-punk band’s Wayne Kramer.

Stone Temple Pilots’ first full concert with Gutt featured songs off the band’s Scott Weiland-fronted albums (including rarely performed tracks like “Regeneration” and “Glide”) as well as Gutt-led songs like “Meadow” and, for the first time live, “Roll Me Under,” a song off Stone Temple Pilots’ upcoming self-titled album with Gutt.

Gutt, a former X Factor contestant, is the third vocalist to front Stone Temple Pilots, following the deaths of Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington.

“Mr. Weiland paved quite a way,” Stone Temple Pilots’ Dean DeLeo previously told Rolling Stone. “Because not just anybody can sing this catalog. You need someone who really knows how to sing. And Jeff kind of has it all, man. He has that baritone, and he’s also able to get into that tenor world. He’s a real singer.”

Stone Temple Pilots’ maiden tour with Gutt continues Sunday night in San Diego and keeps the alternative rockers on the road until May.
