See Flaming Lips' Trippy 'There Should Be Unicorns' on 'Colbert'

The Flaming Lips returned to The Late Show Thursday to perform “There Should Be Unicorns,” a track off the group’s latest LP Oczy Mlody.

Last April, Wayne Coyne performed on the show singing “Space Oddity” while piggyback-riding Chewbacca. This time, he mounted a plastic, devil-horned unicorn while two horse wranglers dressed as astronauts stood alongside him.

The set featured a mix of mind-altering visuals, spaced-out rhythms and quirky costumes. (With the exception of bassist Michael Ivens, who simply wore an Oklahoma City Thunder jersey while everyone else wore robes, capes or balloon angel wings.)

Following the show, Colbert, Coyne and the astronauts did some slo-mo dancing in a hallway in the Ed Sullivan Theatre. “Just another night at the Late Show. Nothing different happening here,” the host tweeted.

On Friday, the group released the official video for the song, featuring a rainbow-winged Coyne, lots of glitter and, of course, a unicorn.
