Ghostface Killah to Launch Cryptocurrency Company

Ghostface Killah has cofounded a cryptocurrency company called Cream Capital, CNBC reports. The company is looking to raise $30 million during its initial coin offering (ICO).

Cream Capital takes its name from Wu-Tang Clan’s 1993 classic song “C.R.E.A.M.,” which stands for “Cash rules everything around me.” In the case of the company, Cream Capital Chief Executive Brett Westbrook told CNBC it has been granted the trademark for Crypto Rules Everything Around Me.

The ICO “Cream Dividend” tokens will be sold in November, which can then be exchanged for Ether. Ether is the value token of the Ethereum blockchain. Essentially, blockchains are the digital ledger for economic transactions that serve as the backbone for the digital currency. Cryptocurrency, such as bitcoin, is digital currency that uses cryptography for security.

“Ghostface Killah is a longtime business partner of ours,” Westbrook told Pigeons & Planes of the rapper’s involvement in the venture. Westbrook said that they met during a Reddit AMA and added that Ghostface Killah will serve as the company’s Chief Branding Officer.

“His work capacity will be laying out a framework for which cryptocurrencies are more familiar to everyday people,” Westbrook explained of the rapper’s role in the company.

A rep for Ghostface Killah did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

ICOs are a way of crowdfunding, but they’ve recently come under scrutiny. As TechCrunch points out, the Securities and Exchange Commission charged two companies – REcoin and DRC World – for allegedly defrauding investors by selling unregistered securities and coins that don’t exist. These appear to be the first ICOs to come under scrutiny for fraud.

Cream Capital told CNBC that its ICO participants would be protected via a digital coin standard to prevent investors from monetary losses. The company said that their virtual coins can also be added to debit cards that can be used at stores and places that take card payments.

The company is holding its token sale on November 11th.

Watch Celine Dion's Poignant Tribute to Las Vegas Shooting Victims

Celine Dion opened her Tuesday night show in Las Vegas with an emotional speech that paid tribute to the victims of the Route 91 Festival shooting.

“On Sunday, we lost too many beautiful, innocent souls, and so many are still suffering,” Dion told her audience at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. “But tonight we’re going to let these families know that we are supporting them and that we will help them through their tragic loss.”

Fifty-nine people were killed and over 550 injured when a gunman opened fire on the crowd of over 20,000 from the 32nd floor on an adjacent hotel. The terror attack was the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history.

“After Sunday night’s incredibly tragic event, all of us here find ourselves asking a similar question: For you, it’s ‘Do we still go to Celine’s show on Tuesday night, two days after the nightmare. For me, it’s ‘Can I still do my show? Should I still do my show only two days after the nightmare?’ These are difficult questions,” Dion said, “but I want you to know that you have made the right choice in being here tonight, and the reason that I decided to do this show so soon is more than to just sing. It is to show love and support for those who are affected.”

Dion also revealed that the proceeds from Tuesday’s performance would be donated to the Las Vegas victims’ families on behalf of the audience. “We dedicate tonight’s show to all the victims and their families, and to the first responders, and to the doctors and nurses who are working around the clock to save lives,” Dion added. “And to so many heroes who did whatever they could to help complete strangers in a time of desperate needs.”

Brandon Flowers on Las Vegas Shooting: 'I'm Devastated For My Community'

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers vented that he’s “devastated for [his] community” following the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed over 50 people and injured over 500 Sunday during a the Route 91 Harvest festival. The singer – a native of nearby Henderson, Nevada and current Utah resident – wrote in a poignant Facebook post that he is and “will always be … a Vegas boy.”

“This past Sunday on a flight home from Australia, I flew over my hometown,” he said. “Forehead to the window I looked down on Las Vegas and felt a prick of nostalgia. I thought about my mother buried below, I thought about my friends in Henderson, and I even traced Flamingo road down to where it meets the 95 and pin pointed my high school, Chaparral. I could see the city as a whole, but I couldn’t look close enough to see what was about to unfold. It’s hard to believe it’s real. My prayers go out to those whose lives were taken and to everyone else affected by this nightmare.”

Flowers lamented that the shooting occurred during a concert, which he described as a “rite of passage, a holy communion, or just the kind of escape from the stress and the grind of daily life that so many people need.”

He also praised the attendees who risked bodily harm to aid strangers. “My heart swells when I hear the stories of people putting their lives on the line to help each other – defying the stereotypes of what people say Las Vegas is all about,” he added. “We’re all long lost brothers and sisters. I miss my town, I miss my mom, I miss these victims I didn’t even know, but I look forward to getting together with you real soon to keep their memory alive.”

The Killers recently issued their fifth LP (and first in five years), Wonderful Wonderful, which topped the Billboard 200 during its debut week on the charts.

The Jesus Lizard Announce First Tour in Eight Years

After an eight-year hiatus, the Jesus Lizard will reunite for a short run of U.S. dates this December. It will be their first shows since 2009.

The six-date trek kicks off on December 8th and will hit major cities on the East and West Coasts, beginning with a headlining set in Nashville before wrapping with their previously announced appearance at Houston’s Day for Night Festival the weekend of December 16th. Tickets for all gigs except Day for Night go on sale Friday.

The noise-rock crew originally came together in 1987 before calling it quits in 1999. During that time, they built a steady following thanks in part to a split single with Nirvana, which made it on to the U.K. singles chart, and a slot on Lollapalooza ’95, which coincided with the band’s signing to Capitol Records. They re-formed in 2008 for touring pegged to remastered reissues of the group’s catalogue on indie-label Touch and Go, but didn’t pursue any dates beyond 2009.

In 2012, guitarist Duane Denison told Rolling Stone that the Jesus Lizard once again were defunct. They’d attempted to make a reunion record but “certain members” didn’t commit themselves fully to it. “I thought, ‘All right, I’m not gonna twist anyone’s arm to make this happen,'” he said. “I was the one that pushed it to get it going in the first place. So I said, ‘Fine, I’ll take my ideas with me,’ and that turned into other things, and that’s just how it works.” At the time, Denison said he hoped that the band would play together again, as well as including a few new songs in the set, but those shows never materialized.

Since the 2009 split, Denison released a new album with the supergroup Tomahawk, Oddfellows, and frontman David Yow put out a solo LP, Thought You Look Like a Spider, both in 2013. They’d announced that year a festival gig in Melbourne, but canceled the set.

The Jesus Lizard Tour Dates

December 8 – Nashville, TN @ Cannery Ballroom
December 9 – Chicago, IL @ Metro
December 10 – New York, NY @ Irving Plaza
December 14 – Los Angeles, CA @ The Fonda Theatre
December 15 – San Francisco, CA @ The Independent
December 16-17- Houston, TX @Day For Night Festival

Review: Demi Lovato Shows Off Her Brassy Firepower on 'Tell Me You Love Me'

Demi Lovato is at her pop-princess best when hermajestic wail takes over, as the high points of the singer’s sixth albumattest. The title track channels the brassy clamor of her 2015 smash “Confident”into maximum-overdrive R&B; “Sexy Dirty Love” throws back to therobo-funk era, with Lovato using its fluid bass line as a springboard for vocalpyrotechnics. The LP gets bogged down in chilled-out trap pop (see the LilWayne-assisted “Lonely”). But slow jams like “Concentrate”perfectly balance the downtempo and the energetic.
