Bob Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone' Handwritten, Signed Lyrics Up for Auction

A recent draft of Bob Dylan‘s handwritten lyrics for his iconic 1965 song “Like a Rolling Stone” is headed to auction via Nate D. Sanders Auctions in Los Angeles. The new draft was handwritten in 2017 and has been authenticated by Bob Dylan’s manager, according to a statement from the auction house.

Auction owner Nate D. Sanders believes this is only the second time handwritten lyrics to the classic song have been available for auction. In 2014, lyrics believed to be from an early draft were auctioned by Sotheby’s and were sold to an unidentified bidder for $2.05 million. That draft was described as “the only known surviving draft of the final lyrics for this transformative rock anthem” and included abandoned lines and Dylan’s stray thoughts and doodles.

While the draft that was auctioned in 2014 appeared on four sheets of stationary from Roger Smith Hotel in Washington, D.C., the newly available draft appears on one sheet, with no discernable markers as to where it may have been written. Dylan’s signature appears at the bottom of the 2017 draft. In March, handwritten lyrics to an unpublished 1961 Dylan song about Wisconsin were on the auction block, with an opening bid of $30,000.

Bidding for the lyrics begins at $125,000. In addition to the “Like a Rolling Stone” handwritten lyrics lot, a signed Blonde on Blonde album is up for auction, with bidding beginning at $5000. The auction ends on Thursday.

Dylan’s Trouble No More – The Bootleg Series Vol. 13 / 1979-1981, which spotlights his gospel period, will be released on November 3rd.

Inside Brooklyn Rapper Young M.A's Budding Empire

By now, 25-year-old Katorah Marrero, also known as Young M.A, should be accustomed to industry accolades. In the whirlwind year that’s followed the release of her 2016 banger “OOOUUU,” the wins have been nonstop: a double-platinum plaque, a headline tour, label offers, multiple Beyoncé cosigns. But she says she’s still adjusting to all the attention.

“I didn’t know how to react, because I honestly didn’t expect that,” she tells me on the phone, reflecting on her first VMA nomination this summer. “I just finished being nominated for the BET Awards, and I thought that was it after that.”

It seems likely that Young M.A will eventually take home one of these trophies – and if she does, she’ll become the first openly gay female rapper to do so. But for now, the Brooklyn native is happy enough just taking everything in: the new lifestyle (“I’m trying to adapt to going places and always being seen”); the constant travel (“I’ve never heard of some of these places”); the unlikely fans (“I didn’t even know what to expect out of [Denmark]; they just went crazy”).

If there was ever a time to sit back and enjoy the spoils of her hustle, it’s the moment M.A occupies currently, with two acclaimed mixtapes already behind her. Of course, she’s doing the exact opposite. “I don’t want to just settle,” she says. “I didn’t do nothing yet in my eyes, and I want to keep it like that ’cause it keeps it constant.” Her latest EP, Herstory, mirrors this stance: “M.A (Intro)” opens on a much-deserved victor’s chant, but “JOOTD” – sampling Monica’s iconic introvert anthem – finds M.A retreating from fame’s onslaught: “You know I’m stuck in my ways, why you seem so amazed?/Let me be in my zone, let me be on my own.”

That independent streak translates to her business model too. Without the support of a label, “OOOUUU” nabbed the Number Three spot on Billboard‘s Hot Rap Songs chart (and went to Number 19 on the Hot 100).

“I got wiser since I’ve been in this business; I’ve definitely learned a lot,” she adds. “I mean, I knew how to handle it and not just jump at anything, but it’s definitely changed me mentally. I don’t really have nobody who mentors me. I get advice from different people, but my big inspiration is [my supporters]. Every time I write a song – anything I do – I think about them first.”

Young M.A’s fans will have much to look forward to in the near future, including a new single and possibly even a movie role or two. She enjoys the kind of freedom that lets her schedule and drop what she wants, when she wants – and she’s not ready to give that up.

“Idon’t plan to be independent forever; you never know what could happen,” she says. “I stillwant to be able to move in the same way. I don’t want to feel like I’mobligated to fit [into] a box to be successful. I’m just adapting because thisis forever now. I want to do this forever.”

Aerosmith Cancel Tour Dates Due to Steven Tyler Medical Issues

Aerosmith canceled a handful of tour dates as Steven Tyler recovers from an undisclosed “unexpected medical issues.” A Twitter post from the singer’s account said he was “seeking immediate care and has been advised by his doctors that he cannot travel or perform at this time.” The band subsequently canceled the last four dates of the South American leg of its AeroVederci tour.

“Steven is expected to make a full recovery,” the band said in a statement. “With proper rest and treatment he will be back on his feet soon, rocking the world.”

Tyler also shared a message to the fans in the countries where the band canceled its tour dates. “To everybody in South America – Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Mexico – I’m very sorry and feel like I’ve let you down,” he wrote. “I won’t be able to continue the last four shows of this tour. I flew back to the U.S. on doctor’s orders last night after the show in São Paulo.

“Please not to worry,” he continued, “I am not in a life-threatening condition, but I need to deal with this right away and get some rest and medical care immediately in order to sustain and maintain my future performances. I promise I’ll be back. Unfortunately, health does not wait and it’s something even I can’t schedule around our shows. As they say, ‘We humans make plans, and God laughs.’ I love you all and will be back with you soon.”

A rep for Aerosmith did not reply to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment in time for this article’s publication.

Last summer, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was hospitalized while touring with the supergroup Hollywood Vampires after he collapsed onstage during the band’s Coney Island, New York concert. Last September, Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer told Rolling Stone that Perry was “playing better than ever in my opinion.”

Aerosmith have canceled the following AeroVederci tour dates:

September 27th – Curitiba, Brazil
September 30th – Santiago, Chile
October 3rd – Rosario, Argentina
October 7th – Monterrey, Mexico

Watch Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett's Cozy 'Continental Breakfast' Video

Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett hang with family and friends in the charming video for their new single, “Continental Breakfast.” The airy folk tune will appear on the pair’s upcoming collaborative album, Lotta Sea Lice, out October 13th.

The Danny Cohen-directed clip blends footage of Vile and Barnett in their respective homes of Philadelphia and Melbourne. The clip is filled with endearing, intimate moments, like when Vile holds up a DVD copy of Nick Broomfield’s documentary Kurt & Courtney (Cobain and Love, that is) or when Barnett and her friends take over an empty bowling lane.

“Shot on 16mm, the mini-documentary captures honest moments that show the loving and playful nature of both Courtney and Kurt,” Cohen said of the video. “It was such a treat to experience life with Courtney and Kurt in their natural habitats. It really left me feeling like part of the family and hopefully fans can feel that too.”

Along with “Continental Breakfast,” Vile and Barnett previously shared Lotta Sea Lice single, “Over Everything.” The collaborative projects marks the first LP for both since 2015, when Barnett released Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit and Vile released B’lieve I’m Goin Down….

“My Cousin Was Shot 18 Times Including the Face and Back of His Head!” she captioned her post. “He Harmed NO ONE EVER! He Had Mental Health Issues AND THE COPS KNEW THAT! A post shared by T-Boz (@therealtboz) on Sep 24, 2017 at 5:07pm PDT

A press release from the Peoria Police Department states that police followed Russell Jr. to a residential neighborhood after they identified him as a suspect in a bank robbery. After tracking him down at his home, officers attempted to communicate with Russell Jr. for over two hours before finally calling in a special response team, who asked his mother to help draw him out of the home.

“The cops told his mother to call him out on a bullhorn USED her saying ‘WE WILL GIVE HIM THE HELP HE NEEDS’ and He Came Out Because He Heard His Mother and They used beyond excessive force to gun him down also with heavy artillery used in warfare!” Watkins wrote. “18 times? Shot eighteen times?? IF THEIR GOING ON WHAT HES HOLDING AT HTE BANK THAT ISN’T A GUN!”

In the police report, which was shared to Facebook, the police claimed that Russell Jr. was “armed” when he “emerged from his home advancing towards officers with a handgun.”

“The handgun Russell was armed with during the shooting incident matches the description of the gun he used during the Bank Robbery at First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust,” the statement reads. “The handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting incident.”

Russell Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. He was 25.

According to the New York Daily News, he had just been released from a mental health facility shortly before he was killed, and his father had tried to ask police to let him inside to talk to his son, but he was told no.

“They could have tased him from 30 feet away,” father Eddie Russell, Sr., told the Peoria Journal Star hours after the shooting. “But they grabbed him out of the house. I don’t care what they say.”

On Twitter, Watkins railed against the police and the changing narrative that was being spread in the news. “I’ve watched this story change so many times right before my eyes!” she tweeted. “Jr. Was a sweet harmless young man with mental issues he couldn’t help.”

The six police officers involved in the shooting are currently on critical incident leave.
