Watch Muppets Sing 'Rainbow Connection' at Hollywood Bowl Concert

The Muppets staged their first ever full-length stage performance Friday night at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, where Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and company sang Muppet Show favorites alongside covers of David Bowie, Queen, the Beatles and more.

One of the highlights of the “Muppets Take the Bowl” show came during the evening’s penultimate song, when Kermit the Frog was joined by surprise guest Paul Williams on a duet of “Rainbow Connection,” which Williams co-wrote for 1979’s The Muppet Movie.

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Bobby Moynihan, who earlier in the night sang “Happy Feet” alongside Kermit, and the entire Muppets ensemble also joined in on the performance.

The Hollywood Bowl concert comes 13 months after the Muppet Show house band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem staged their first gig with a set at the Outside Lands Festival in 2016.

The puppet rock group delivered a few songs at the Hollywood Bowl show, including covers of David Bowie’s “Suffragette City,” Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home” and the evening’s final song, the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends.”

The “Muppets Take the Bowl” show also featured Miss Piggy covering Adele’s “Hello” and Rowlf singing Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”

The Muppets will also perform Saturday and Sunday night at the legendary venue.

Beyoncé delivered an emotional speech to Hurricane Harvey evacuees Friday at Houston’s St. John’s Church.

“This today is a celebration of survival,” Beyoncé told her hometown crowd. “Y’all are my family. Houston is my home. I thank God that y’all are safe, that your children are safe. The things that really matter are your health and your children, and your family and your life.”

Beyoncé’s Destiny’s Child bandmate Michelle Williams and mother Tina Knowles joined the Lemonade singer, who previously pledged to aid Hurricane Harvey relief efforts through her BeyGood foundation.

“I just want to say that I’m home. This church is my home. I was maybe nine or 10 years old the first time I sat where my daughter’s sitting. I sang my first solo here,” Beyonce said before turning to her pastor Rudy Rasmus.

“I just want to thank you for lifting my family. For praying for me. And for being such an incredible example of what life and love is.”

See Tom Hanks, James Corden Do Carpool Karaoke on School Bus

U2, Justin Timberlake, Tom Hanks, Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jennifer Hudson were among the dozens of artists and celebrities to take part in XQ Super School Live, a multi-network special that aired Friday.

Viola Davis, Common, J.J. Abrams, Samuel L. Jackson, DJ Khaled, Mahershala Ali and James Corden also appeared during the event, which “invited the public to help rethink the future of American high schools.”

At the 33-minute mark of the above video, Hanks and Corden partake in a mini-episode of Carpool Karaoke, with the actor behind of the wheel of an XQ school bus while he and the Late Late Show host sing along to Kim Wilde’s “Kids in America.”

The finale featured an all-star rendition of the Beatles’ “Come Together,” with U2 kicking off the performance with a snippet of their rendition live from the Joshua Tree Tour. The action then cut to Ringo Starr playing drums in the studio, followed by a montage of artists – including Reggie Watts, Sheryl Crow and Sheila E. – each singing a line from the Abbey Road classic.

The colorful rendition closed out with Jennifer Hudson onstage at XQ Super School Live performing “Come Together” with a huge marching band and dozens of dancers.

During the special, Timberlake introduced an XQ Super School in Houston while Miranda visited his high school and theatre teacher in a short film. The special also included performances by Kelly Clarkson (new song “Move You”), Andra Day (“Rise Up”) and Hunter Hayes.

“In America, we know that one small step can become a walk on the moon. We know that one simple act of sitting on a bus can inspire an entire movement. We know that two hundred seventy-two words on a hill in Gettysburg can help heal a nation,” Hanks said toward the end of the special. “We take problems and raise our hands to solve them. That’s what we do. That’s who we are. So tonight, let’s take that one small step to reshape our education system in this country. Because when we’re good, we’re great.”

Watch Pete Townshend, the Roots Perform the Who's 'Love Reign O'er Me'

Pete Townshend, tenor Alfie Boe and the Roots teamed to perform the Who‘s “Love Reign O’er Me” on The Tonight Show Friday.

Boe’s Tony-winning vocals fill in for Roger Daltrey on the unique rendition of the Quadrophenia closer, which features on Townshend’s symphonic LP Classic Quadrophenia, The guitarist himself handles the second verse as a small orchestra and the Roots lift “Love Reign O’er Me” to soaring heights.

Townshend’s Classic Quadrophenia, which debuted in London in 2015, reinterprets the Who’s classic 1973 double-LP with help from the London Symphony Orchestra, Boe (singing Daltrey’s parts), Billy Idol, Quadrophenia actor Phil Daniels and more.

The piece had its U.S. debut September 2nd in Lenox, Massachusetts before Friday and Saturday shows at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House.

“Melding the contrasting sounds of Quadrophenia with a symphony has been a really unique and powerful way to reach a wide audience of classical and pop music lovers alike. I couldn’t be more excited to see it continue in the U.S.,” Townshend said of the performances.

The brief Classic Quadrophenia tour will next descend on Chicago’s Rosemont Theatre on September 13th and Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on September 16th. Proceeds from the Classic Quadrophenia shows will benefit Teen Cancer America.

In July, Townshend and Daltrey stopped by The Tonight Show to perform a pair of Who songs, “I Can See for Miles” and “You Better You Bet.”

Hear Van Morrison's Smoky Rendition of 'Goin' to Chicago'

Van Morrison delivers a simmering version of “Goin’ to Chicago” for the latest sampling of the singer’s upcoming new LP Roll With the Punches.

The smoky rendition of the Count Basie and Jimmy Rushing-penned swing era classic finds Morrison working alongside a band that includes organist and singer Georgie Fame, drummer James Powell and Chris Hill on the double bass. The ensemble slows down the “Goin’ to Chicago” to turn it into a straightforward blues cut.

“The thing about the blues is you don’t dissect it – you just do it,” Morrison previously said in a statement. “I was lucky to have met people who were the real thing, people like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bo Diddley, Little Walter and Mose Allison. I got to hang out with them and absorb what they did. They were people with no ego whatsoever and they helped me learn a lot.”

The singer previously unveiled his rendition of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It on Home to Me” and his own “Transformation,” both from Roll With the Punches, which features 10 covers and five originals. Roll With the Punches arrive September 17th.

Morrison added, “The songs on Roll With the Punches – whether I’ve written them or not – they’re performance oriented. Each song is like a story and I’m performing that story. That’s been forgotten over years because people over-analyze things. I was a performer before I started writing songs, and I’ve always felt like that’s what I do.”
